Are you embarrassed about calling a plumber out to deal with that blocked drain because you know exactly what’s blocking it? You just don’t want anyone else to know what it is! We feel ya. But at the same time we know the damage that a blocked drain can go on to do to your home’s internal plumbing system if left alone! Not only that, but if you have a real doozy of a blocked drain you may end up doing far more damage than good if you try to fix it yourself. There are very few plumbing jobs I’d recommend the DIY set play around with. So if you’re feeling a little insecure, read on, because these weird and wonderful plumbing stories will have you reaching for the phone in seconds!
A blocked drain isn’t just going to go away, and there really isn’t anything that your local plumber hasn’t already seen (well, mostly). Besides whatever is down there, can’t be anywhere as strange as what these plumbers have found in various drains around the world! Trust us, there some weird stuff in people’s drains!
- A Training Bra: Sure, little kids put some silly things down toilets, include clothing belonging to their siblings, but this one is strange not because of what it was, but because of where it was. In the men’s toilets of a commercial business. What?!
- GI Joe: Toys of all sorts are a common thing to find blocking drains in homes. One particular child wanted to see if his GI Joe doll could swim, so he flushed him down the toilet. He couldn’t.
- False Teeth: It’s the urban legend that is less of a legend and more straight-up truth. Plenty of people lose false teeth and other dental pieces in drains, but the strangest case of misplacing false teeth was in a home where 20 different sets of teeth were pulled from the same drain! It might be time to start taking your teeth out before you’re anywhere near a drain if you’re losing that many.
- Snakes: Sure a 2.2 metre boa constrictor is pretty terrifying, but it’s beaten out by finding a 2.4 metre rattlesnake!
- Piranha: If fish are more your thing, one poor plumber got to pull a piranha out of a drain. Ouch!
- Drugs: It’s the catchcry of plenty of 70s TV shows: “Flush the drugs!” In a recent survey in the UK it was found that a blocked drain was being caused by a block of cocaine. Today they tell us there’s so much cocaine in Britain, it’s even in their water supply!
So are you still worried about what your plumber might think of you and your blocked drain? No?! Didn’t think so.
